Your safety is Guttman’s top priority. We’re closely monitoring the latest developments regarding the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a respiratory illness causing flu-like symptoms. Please check this page often for the most up-to-date information. Let’s remember that Guttman is an inclusive and global community, and times like this call for an extra measure of understanding and awareness.

Additional information and guidance is available on the CUNY Coronavirus website.

As always, CUNY is following the recommendations of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), in addition to the CDC.

Please note: All upcoming in-person admissions process related events are cancelled.  We want to reassure you that Guttman Community College has reviewed the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as it relates to the appropriate recommendations for minimizing the spread of the virus.  To address the rapidly evolving nature of COVID-19 and to preserve the integrity and intentionality of our admissions process, applicants will still be required to complete the mandatory steps.  Moving forward the admissions process will only be offered ONLINE.   Admissions advisors will accommodate any reasonable requests to meet with students.

Starting Monday 3/16/2020, active applicants will receive email communication and be directed to their GrizzlyPath, where students can track their progress and offered the opportunity to complete required steps designed to help them make a well-informed decision.  Upon completion of the CUNY application and satisfying the group information session and individual meeting requirements, applicants will receive an acceptance letter via their GrizzlyPath and be able to submit an online commitment form.

For step by step instructions regarding how to satisfy the online admissions process, please view the Online Admissions Process Manual.

Please note: All upcoming in-person admissions process related events are cancelled.  We want to reassure you that Guttman Community College has reviewed the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as it relates to the appropriate recommendations for minimizing the spread of the virus.

The safety of students, faculty and staff continues to be the primary consideration that guides all decision-making involving the continuity of our operations. This includes decisions involving the fall semester. Because of the fluid and variable nature of the recovery and reopening efforts, no decision has been made yet about the possibility for resumption of on-campus instruction.

To ensure the safety of the community, Guttman is taking additional precautions to help eliminate the spread of germs. Our Facilities crew has implemented a new maintenance schedule and is actively disinfecting common-use surfaces. It is also extremely important to remember the steps YOU can take to prevent the spread of any virus, including the flu:

  • Wash your hands with soap for 10-20 seconds and/or use a greater than 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer whenever you return home from ANY activity that involves locations where other people have been, like the subway or bus.
  • Don’t shake hands — fist bump or elbow bump instead!
  • Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches. elevator buttons, etc.
  • Open doors with your closed fist or hip – do not grasp the handle with your hand, unless there is no other way to open the door. Especially important on bathroom and post office/commercial doors.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid large crowds in areas where viruses are prevalent.
  • Stay home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others.
  • Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Clean your doorknobs, light switches and commonly touched areas with disinfectant wipes frequently.

Guttman encourages students feeling anxious or worried or have health-related questions because of the coronavirus to contact the Wellness Office at 646-313-8165 or

Please know, the Wellness Office is available to provide tele-counseling/therapy appointments by phone and/or video chat. Email or call 646-313-8165 if you’d like to set up an appointment or would like more information.

Additionally, students, staff, and faculty can sign up for the 10 Minute Mind to receive daily guided meditations for free. Sign up with your Guttman email at //

The U.S. government has taken strict measures regarding coronavirus, including suspending entry in the United States of foreign nationals who have visited a country under a CDC level 3 warning (China, Iran, Italy, and South Korea) within the past 14 days. Measures to quarantine and/or test for the virus those who have been in those countries and are allowed entry into the United States (U.S. citizens, legal residents and their families) are also being implemented.

If you develop a fever and symptoms of respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath, within 14 days after returning from a country under a CDC level 3 warning, or after close contact with someone who has recently traveled to them and is displaying these symptoms, you should immediately contact your health care provider. Your health care provider will work with the U.S. Department of Health and the CDC to determine if you need to be tested for coronavirus.

If you have traveled to one of the affected countries in the last 3 weeks, please let the College know via phone or email before returning to campus.

Employees who are sick and exhibiting symptoms of acute respiratory illness are asked to stay home and not come to work until they are free of fever (100.4° F [37.8° C] or greater using an oral thermometer) and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines. Employees should notify their supervisor and keep them informed of their absence. For the health and safety of all employees, staff members who report to work exhibiting these symptoms may be sent home.

Employees returning from a country designated as “Level 3” by the CDC are to contact the Guttman Human Resources office by phone, 646-313-8177 or email before returning to work.

Employees who may have international travel plans should check the CDC’s Traveler’s Health Notices for the latest guidance and recommendations for the country of travel.

CUNY asks faculty and staff to be prepared to accommodate, to the reasonable extent possible, affected students, including, but not limited to, facilitating enrollment after the deadline, fast-tracking academic advising, permitting make-up exams, and extending due dates of final assignments and projects.

Faculty should contact the Dean of Students Office if they need to make any accommodations for any students related to COVID-19.

While the immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is believed by the CDC to be low at this time, if you display symptoms of a respiratory infection—such as a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing—it is recommended that you contact your health care provider.

We encourage all students to also contact the Dean of Students Office and faculty/staff to contact Human Resources.
